We seek to profile makers who have a thriving business creating something from scratch or from basic building blocks, who are turning ideas into things through the use of human hands, tools, and intelligence.
There is a fine line between makers and artists, but we subscribe to this disinction:
A maker focuses on the process of building and the practical function of an object, often asking "How can I make this work?" or "What problem am I solving?" Their output tends to be repeatable, scalable, and oriented toward being a business.
An artist, meanwhile, tends to focus on the concept and emotional expression, asking "What does this mean?" or "What do I want to say?" Their creations tends to be singular, and often oriented toward making an impact, not making a business.
